ANCIENT INDIA
PRAHLADA
Hiranyakashipu, demon king of the Nether regions, extracted a boon from Lord Brahma, one by which neither man nor beast could kill him,nor could he be killed in the night or day, either inside or outside his house with any weapon whatsoever.
Drunk with power, the fearless demon ravaged all the three worlds. When the Devas kidnapped the demon kings wife kayadhu, they intended to kill the child she was expecting. But they released her when the Sage Narada assured them that the child was not to be feared-he would grow to be a devotee of Lord Vishnu.Saga Narada taught kayadhu the worship of Lord Vishnu. So firmly imprinted was devotion in the mind of the unborn Prahlada that he became a faithful follower of Lord Vishnu from the moment of his birth.
He continued worshipping Lord Vishnu in his residential school and also inspired his residential school and also inspired his class-mates to follow what he did. His father considered himself the most powerful and worshipful person. Angered and insulted when the boy refused to stop worshipping Lord Vishnu, the demon king ordered his soldiers to kill his own son.Though thunder struck him, the child suffered no injury. when hissing writhing serpents bit him, their poison proved powerless.Savage hoards of elephants seeking to trample the child to death found their tusks blunted against his breast.Prahlada was thrown into a raging fire, hurled down from a towering height, tossed into the angry sea.......only to emerge unscathed each time. A deadly poison turned to sweetest ambrosia upon touching his lips as he uttered the Lord's name.
Young Prahlada stoically endured torment after torment until his father thundered" show me this Lord of yours, where is he?" "He is every were!" replied the boy, "Is He in this pillar?" taunted the demon king."Yes,
was the serene reply."He dwells even in this pillar."Then Hiranyakashipu mockingly struck the pillar with a shattering blow. The pillar brust open with a deafening sound and Lord Vishnu emerged out as Lord Narsimha--the great in carnation of the Lord.
Assuming a half man and half lion from (neither man nor beast), at dusk (neither day nor night), on the threshold (neither inside nor outside the house), with His claws (without any weapons), He tore the demon king apart thus nullifying the boon of Brahma. The demon king met with his terrible but just destiny. The fearless child was rewarded for his unwavering faith and Prahlada was made king of all the realms beneath the earth.
